Stone Climbing JAX

Jacksonville, Florida

Founded in 2021, Stone Climbing has created a distinct community in NE Florida around climbing culture. For the second gym location, this project extends that culture by designing the building form around the climbing walls; inviting climbers of all levels into a space that feels both expansive and welcoming.

At 16,000 square feet, the building interior carves out a ‘climbing canyon’ of surfaces from the towering 50-foot lead climbing walls to over 5,000 square feet of bouldering terrain. A fully equipped fitness center, kids grotto and state-of-the-art training areas make this gym a place for everyone.

Beyond fitness, the facility includes thoughtfully designed communal lounge areas and work spaces.  Members can enjoy access to a recovery zone with lockers, sauna, and cold plunge. There is an additional members only lounge area with exclusive training equipment.

The overall space is designed to foster connection both inside and out. The canyon layout and strategically placed front desk allow for sightlines throughout the gym. Thoughtfully placed openings allow natural light to filter throughout the building, accentuating the textures of the walls and enhancing the atmospheric connection. The large bank of windows to the south allows climbers to feel as if they are outside.

Stone Climbing Jacksonville is more than a typical gym; it’s a place where the built environment elevates the sport, supporting a growing community of climbers in an environment that is both inspiring and enduring.
