Council on Aging, Coastal Community Center
Exterior Improvements
St. Augustine, Florida

Located at the south end of Marine Street in downtown St. Augustine, the Council on Aging’s Coastal Community Center is housed in the 1970’s county health department building. This site provides a large variety of services and functions to St. Johns County’s senior residents. This  project creates a cohesive campus for the COA to better serve this community.

New landscaping, site walls and sidewalk define the COA property along Marine Drive; this leads to a new entry driveway that now provides a simple ADA access directly into the front of the Community Center. A new canopy will reach out over the entry drive in order to protect loading/unloading from buses and private vehicles.  Using a simple elegant form, the new canopy integrates into the context of the existing building.  New lighting, landscaping, and seating complete the new entry experience.

Future Phases of this project include enhancements to the North Porch at the Sunshine Center as well as creating a South Garden to provide beauty and function for employees, volunteers and visitors alike.
